Boards & Commissions
The Town of Boone has a number of advisory boards, commissions and committees composed of volunteers from within the community. Generally, these commissions make recommendations to the Mayor and Town Council regarding actions and policies affecting municipal government, city departments, and the community. This is a great way to help grow the Town of Boone in a meaningful way! More information on the Boards, Commissions and Committees can be found underneath their respective tabs.

Alcoholic Beverage Commission
The ABC Board oversees operations of the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Commission) store to make sure it complies with state regulations and town requirements.

Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment (BOA) is a quasi-judicial body that acts on specified appeals, variances, major subdivision preliminary plat approval, and special-use permit requests. Except for major subdivision preliminary plat approval, a decision by the Board constitutes the final decision of the Town.

Community Appearance Commission
The Community Appearance Commission (CAC) is an advisory board that makes recommendations to Town Council on the visual appearance, community beautification, and landscape development that affect the Town.

Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is a quasi-judicial body that acts on Certificates of Appropriateness for development within the Downtown Boone Local Historic District and other designated Local Landmarks. The HPC also acts in an advisory capacity by making recommendations to Town Council to promote, enhance and preserve the character and historic landmarks or districts in the Town’s planning area.

Human Relations Commission
The purpose of the Human Relations Commission is to promote and improve human relations and equity among all residents in the town. The Commission will work with town government and partner with communities and outside agencies in an effort to encourage and ensure diversity, fairness, equity and inclusion throughout the town.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is an advisory board that makes recommendations to the Council on future growth and development issues that affect the Town and advises the Town Council concerning the implementation of plans, including, but not limited to, review and comment on all zoning text and map amendments as required by G.S. 160D-604. In addition to or as part of its regular meeting schedule, the Planning Commission shall attend public hearings on proposed zoning text and map amendments scheduled by the Town Council.
